It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have already been conquered.

We're talking about the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the record chasers, are all that remain for a side that has won it all.

The fact it required until Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the pitchers that have worn canary yellow over five decades.

It's difficult for their batters to hold a record if not afforded the chance.

Finally, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy getting a chance to create her newest gem.

Then best known as the young family member of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup arrived three months after her bow and seven global championships have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was also there in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the run of success.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the final and was declared player of the series. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this newest brilliant performance exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Certain people claim the argument supporting final game tension. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was much more difficult to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this performance came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it's been a frustrating experience because I feel like my form was missing completely," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you take the field, your competitive instincts take over and you just lock into the match."

Healy's competitiveness has continuously been her great strength - and a priceless quality in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the young fast bowler in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's motivation.

A single was taken off the bowler's initial ball and from that point Healy was underway.

"An opportunity to go out there and lock in a contest with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three sixes.

By the time she was dismissed her side required another 66 at run per delivery - an unconquered height now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Pursuing 330 is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the belief to do that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, if necessary, we believe we can do it."

Those words will be the last competing nations at this championship should hear.

During the last week a belief they will triumph from any situation has become more firm - this victory following victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

So great is her will, she later said she wished she had played with the discomfort.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is expected to be her last as captain in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as captain.

Success in India would lead her to the peak of her final mountain.
